Abstract
The Body Structural Design work has been the bottleneck of the whole process of a new car model development, because it required many man-hours to do body structural design and many detailed drawings. So, we have developed a large scale computer graphic system CADETT (Computer Aided Design and Engineering Tool for Toyota) to support the car body structural design work. This system uses IMS (Information Management System) for the management of the Body Structure Database and Products Databases which include three dimensional geometric data of each component of car body shells. CADETT also uses RIX (Relational Interface extension) for the handling of each geometric data by application programs, that is the interface between IMS and each application program. Now we use CADETT in the scale of more than 150 graphic displays and achieved the improvement of the productivities of the car body structural design work.
