Abstract :
Competetion and constant cost pressure as well as introduced emission regulations pose challenges for shipping companies. The wind driven hybrid merchant vessel concept Vindskip™ presents an innovative approach to ensure sustainable sea transport. Due to its hull shaped like a symmetrical air foil above the waterline an aerodynnamic lift is generated acting as a propulsive force. In order to utilize the available wind energy during each voyage as efficiently as possible Vindskip™ requires a customized weather routing module. This paper describes its development in line with the specific requirements of Vindskip™.
