Abstract
This paper presents a novel double-sided linear synchronous generator intended for applications in Wave Energy Conversion. The proposed open slot structure of the proposed generator simplifies the manufacturing process. The external and internal stators are in a relative position to each other that improves magnetic flux utilization and reduces oscillations in reluctance for different translator positions. By means of FEM simulation, the features of the double-sided structure in terms of magnetic material utilization and cogging force are investigated and presented here. It is shown that the proposed generator provides improvements over more conventional designs in terms of the management of flux linkage, a better utilization of magnetic material, and a reduction in cogging force.
