Abstract :
Object detection and recognition are still challenging and they find application in surveillance systems. University computer labs may or may not have surveillance video cameras, but even when a camera is present it may not have an intelligent software system to automatically monitor. A system for Automated Surveillance of Computer Monitors in Labs was designed and developed for automatic detection of any missing monitors. This system can also detect the person who is responsible for removing any monitor. If this is an authorized person, the system will display the name and facial image from the database of all employees. If the person is unauthorized, the system will generate an alarm and will display that person´s face, and will send an automated email instantly to the security department of the university with that facial image. The simulation results confirm that this automated system could be used for monitoring any computer labs.
