Abstract
Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) are emerging as an effective solution for proper utilization of the unutilized or underutilized radio spectrum of primary user (Licensed user), by the secondary user (Cognitive user/Unlicensed user). In the cognitive radio ad hoc network, the sovereignty of the network resource is dispersed among the users. Hence, to enhance the coordination in cognitive radio ad hoc network, it is essential that, a leader should be elected so that, it can assure quality of service (QoS), spectrum allocation and aggregation and synchronization of cognitive radios. This paper presents different design issues of leader election protocol for cognitive radio ad hoc network, which are indispensable. These issues should be considered at the time of designing the effective protocol. Although it is very difficult to satisfy all the issues in a single protocol but out of all, some issues can be adjusted according to the design requirement of a particular leader election protocol.
