Abstract :
Radio signals can dramatically change their propagation behavior while passing through the atmosphere. Radio signals can get trapped in ducting layers and can travel long distances without much loss. This can be both advantageous and adverse; former in a sense that signal can travel beyond horizon, and latter in sense that it can interfere with a receiver located far away. This paper uses latest available one year of radiosonde data to investigate the occurrence of elevated ducts above Arabian Sea. Such detailed investigations have not been carried out for the said region before. The complications arising out of anomalous propagation due to ducting are expected to be more prevalent in lower section of atmosphere and during spring season.
