Abstract :
Nowadays, robust position, navigation and timing information becomes an essential foundation of e-navigation, and requires the trials and development of a new system to enhance marine navigation. The automatic identification system (AIS) is an existing system designed for communication originally. A position estimation algorithm in AIS is proposed in this paper. The dual channel compensation algorithm is proposed to get the accurate difference of signal transmission delay from the different shore stations. Then the position of the ship can be estimated using the time difference of arrival (TDOA) technique. Furthermore, the Kalman filter is utilized to correct the rough position estimation. Finally, the positioning algorithm is verified and evaluated by the positioning experiment in the real AIS situation. The results show that the positioning accuracy is acceptable.
