  • Abstract
    For achieving the accurate regulation of stoichiometric air-fuel ratio to remove efficiently the pollutants in the exhaust, this paper presents the fuelling control scheme for spark ignition (SI) engines using an adaptive stabilization control method of uncertain input delayed systems. The key of this work is to handle parameter uncertainties caused by inaccurate air charge estimation, wall-wetting compensation and oxygen sensor aging, and time delay due to the location of the universal exhaust gas oxygen (UEGO) sensor. A fuel injection controller of proportional-integral (PI) structure with an adaptive law is designed by means of the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional stability theory combined with linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and adaptive techniques. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated through simulation on a V6 SI engine model provided by the SICE Research Committee on Advanced Powertrain Control Theory.
