Abstract :
Summary form only given. This panel discussion addresses two topics. The first one concerns the functionality of power system restoration tool entitled “System Restoration Navigator (SRN)” supported by EPRI. The SRN is based on the theory of Generic Restoration Milestones (GRMs). The functions of this prototype include: GUIs, strategy generation engine and security checking interface. By interactive GUIs, constraints and combinations of GRMs can be specified by users. Each GRM will be accomplished by algorithms involved in strategy generation engine, and a restoration strategy option can be customized by users. Through the power flow checking interface, a restoration strategy option can be checked by users. The second one addresses the restoration method and application in China, especially in China Southern Power Grid Co. Ltd.(CSG). CSG initialized a restoration project entitled “Self-healing power grid construction with fast cut back units”. This project introduced the fast cut back units to CSG as blackstart resources. The associated restoration methods and tools were developed. Based on the comprehensive study of fast cut back units, this project covered the generating units´ design, system planning and restoration strategy development. The latest advancement of this project will be introduced in this discussion.
