            Abstract :
Controlling the emission of surface energy lies at the heart of many energy harvesting applications. However, the emission is strongly tied to the temperature of the object and there is little ability for modification. In this paper, we describe the design and experimental validation of both electrochromic and thermochromic devices, which combine metamaterials with Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), thus yielding far superior control over surface emission.
