Abstract :
An adjustable-focus endoscope is reported in this paper. Such an endoscope consists of a miniature solid tunable lens designed according to the Alvarez principle, two slim piezo benders and one image fiber bundle. A dynamic tuning of optical power from about 135 diopters to about 205 diopters is experimentally achieved, and furthermore, the image quality is satisfactory within the whole tuning range. Three targets located at different objective distances, i.e., 30mm, 70 mm and 180 mm are focused by the endoscope successively with various input DC voltages.
