Abstract :
The regular IEEE 802.11e HCCA mode cannot guarantee the QoS support for the VBR traffic. Hence, many researchers proposed new mechanisms by enhancing the regular standard. The adjustable TXOP mechanism version 2 (ATMV2) is one of the mechanisms which can support the VBR traffic. However, ATMV2 has been evaluated based on the video from the open library which is quite too short for making a good network behaviour observation. Also, in each video stream, scenes are tended to be monotone (i.e. slight, gentle walking, and rapid movements) and heterogenous. In this paper, ATMV2 mechanism has been extensively evaluated with the youtube movie trailers which are mixing scene types. ATMV2 mechanism has been compared with ARROW mechanism by measuring the number of supported video sessions in ns2 simulator. The results confirm that the performance of ATMV2 mechanism is better than ARROW mechanism for six out of seven tested movie trailers. We also found that the movie trailers from various IMDB categories are not significantly different.
