Abstract
Scalable video transmission (SVT) system, which is able to transmit video programs with multiple qualities to different users with different channel and reception conditions, is well designed and implemented on FPGA in this paper. The designed SVT system is based on bit division multiplexing (BDM) technique and H.264/SVC. Capacity region analysis, bit error ratio (BER) simulations and field trial are performed in this paper. The results show that the proposed SVT system has higher spectrum efficiency than the traditional SVT system with redundant source bit streams and time division multiplexing technique. Field trial results show that, with the proposed SVT system, video services with different qualities have different coverage areas.
