Abstract :
The ability to sense the presence of human through visually obscure barriers can be useful in many critical missions like the search and rescue operation. Due to the nature of a human target which regularly moves, theoretically the Change Detection (CD) principle can be employed for detection. Experiments were performed in the controlled environment utilizing 10 cm thick brick wall in order to validate this theory. It was discovered that the CD scheme in combination with DAS based beamformer is sensitive to changes due to position, postural and breathing. It is also possible to differentiate between a sitting and standing target from the images in the vertical plane.
