Abstract :
A linear (optimal) complexity direct solver not only can significantly accelerate the forward analysis of electromagnetic problems, but also open up a new solution space for fast inverse design (synthesis). In this work, we show how the layout synthesis of electromagnetic structures can be transformed to an equivalent inverse problem, and subsequently solved by a linear-complexity direct finite-element solver without the need for an optimizer.
