Abstract
This paper shows an example of how the RFID technology can be used in healthcare applications. We propose a tag in the UHF European band (865-868 MHz) that is meant to be incorporated into the wristband of a patient for tracking purposes. A read range of 2 m is required for this application since the reader will be placed in the door frames. Very specific requirements will be imposed upon the dimensions of the tag (reduced size, low profile) in order to be comfortable to wear. The high losses introduced by the proximity of the human tissue and the variability of the operating scenario are also taken into account in the design.
