Abstract
This paper deals with the development of dual-band antenna by incorporating an array of SRR with wires into a single band of conventional microstrip square patch antenna. The proposed antenna is intended to work at 2 frequency bands for GPS (Global Positioning System) and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) applications. It is composed of 3 layers of copper conductor which flank 2 layers of FR4 Epoxy dielectric substrate. The antenna which is fed using a microstrip line feeding network has thickness and dimension of 1.6m and 72mm × 51mm, respectively. In order to demonstrate the dual-band property, a conventional microstrip square patch antenna is simultaneously designed using the same dielectric substrate with similar physical parameters. From the measurement results, it shows that the realized dual-band antenna has the first- and second-band resonant frequencies of 1.52GHz and 2.47GHz, respectively. Meanwhile, the realized conventional microstrip square patch antenna resonates at frequency of 1.555GHz in which this is 35MHz higher than the first resonant frequency of dual-band antenna.
