Abstract
Choosing and implementing technologies to extract value from big data are constant challenges for business and governments alike. This paper describes the design and implementation of a data mining tool to analyze the XML data of the U.S. university campus crimes. The main aim of this tool is to extract data stored in XML documents and to provide summarized information that can help students in determining the safety level of a campus before accepting an admission. The tool can also be used by police officers or campus administrators in determining the crime rate across campuses and help them in implementing necessary measures to reduce the crime rate to ensure campus safety. This web based tool provides users with statistical data, different types of charts for visual analysis, and the results obtained from Apriori algorithm in the form of association rules.
