  • Abstract
This letter presents the impedance characterization of an ultra wideband antipodal Tapered slot Antenna (TSA) using a Wave Concept Iterative Procedure (WCIP). WICP is an integral method based on the wave concept for solving problems of electromagnetic diffraction and used in analysis of planar circuits and antennas. The method is based upon a combination of tangential field and initial conditions to characterize the waves on surfaces of multilayer structures. It is an iterative process and the convergence is obtained from a recurrence relation between the incident waves and the reflected waves. The antipodal TSA comprises a contoured radiating slot, formed using two conducting strips, acting as a transformer to couple the impedance of the antenna to that of free space (J.Y. Siddiqui et.al., IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagat. Lett., 10, 251–254, 2011). It is a class of directional, endfire radiating traveling-wave antenna and offering a wide bandwidth with good radiation performance.
