  • Abstract
We present a novel body-worn sensor for continuous real-time imaging of deep human tissues. The sensor operates at 40 MHz, and consists of a set of transmitting and receiving probes placed around the human body. Preliminary results show that the sensor can provide 16-pixel images of the underlying cross-section with accuracy better than 5%. Remarkably, this is the first time that tissues deep into the body can be imaged pixel-by-pixel using a portable body-worn approach. Overall, the proposed sensor brings forward a new approach for real-time deep-tissue monitoring to be used in a wide range of applications (e.g., prevention of cardiovascular diseases, tumor growth monitoring, etc.).
