Abstract
Open planar structures including wire-medium slabs with vertically aligned wires are studied by means of a transverse equivalent network representation of the relevant homogenized structure. Modal properties are thereby retrieved using a transverse-resonance technique, whilst far-field patterns generated by elementary sources are calculated via reciprocity. The application of wire-medium layers to suppress radiation due to TEM in a Fabry-Perot cavity antenna excited by a vertical electric dipole is demonstrated, thus obtaining wideband leaky-wave radiation from the TM1 leaky mode in the form of a linearly polarized conical pattern with wide angular scan range.
