Abstract
The Sub-domain Decomposition Iterative Method (SDIM) is presented to efficiently solve a large linear system obtained by discretizing the boundary integral equations by applying a Method of Moments. The SDIM approach starts with sampling the sea surface profile into a number of distinct sub-domains (blocks). The self-interactions within each block are characterized by local impedance matrices, while the mutual-interactions between two different blocks are described by coupling impedance matrices. In addition, to accelerate the matrix-vector products and to reduce the memory requirement, the Adaptive Cross Approximation (ACA) is hybridized to compress the coupling matrices. This general technique is tested on the electromagnetic scattering problem from a large highly-conducting one-dimensional rough sea surface.
