Abstract
This paper discusses the avenues for design and use of tunable low profile high frequency (HF) monopole-like antennas for vehicular applications. Questions related to possible loading approaches and vehicle mounting are considered. The goals are to achieve low profile along with bandwidth greater than 24 kHz throughout the 10-30 MHz range. It is shown that the requirements can be satisfied with less than 1 m height (<;λ0/30) above the vehicle using capacitive loading.
