Abstract
As an emerging research area, event extraction from Twitter has attracted much attention since 2010. This paper attempts to provide a critical survey of the technical achievements in this area. It covers different aspects of the research, including the definition of the problem, existing approaches, and evaluation issues. Finally, in retrospect of what has been achieved so far, the survey also discusses the future challenges and research issues need to be addressed.
