Abstract :
A Transverse Flux Machine (TFM) topology with ring winding configuration is proposed. A novel approach for stator pole configuration is presented that ensures lower leakage between adjacent poles. The unique stator pole configuration permits an overlapping region between adjacent stator poles resulting in a significant improvement in space utilization that helps attain higher torque-to-volume ratio. In addition, the innovative pole design reduces the end winding length which helps reduce the copper mass. Simulation results are presented based on 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Significant performance improvement was achieved compared to similar transverse flux machines.
