Abstract
This paper proposes a new design for a spoke-type BLDC motor using a ferrite permanent magnet (Fe-PM) to improve the reliability of the motor. First, the design process for a neodymium permanent magnet free spoke-type BLDC motor without an inserted additional assistant permanent magnet (PM) is presented. The proposed motor is designed by taking into account the demagnetization phenomenon. Second, the effect of the armature reaction on the PM is analyzed by using the finite element method in order to evaluate the robustness of the proposed motor with Fe-PM. Finally, a prototype motor is manufactured based on the analyzed motor. The output characteristic is verified through an experiment.
