  • Abstract
    Static power converters have widespread applications, such as ground power units (GPU) for airplanes. A modified static ground power unit based on 5-level Active Natural Point Clamped (5L-ANPC) multilevel converter is proposed in this paper. A new LS-PSC-PWM switching method for the 5L-ANPC converter is defined in this paper. The provided THD value of proposed converter will be less than those the traditional PSC-PWM switching method. The output voltage has the harmonics around the 2k times of switching frequency where k is the integer number. It results in smaller passive components that can satisfy the THD requirement for AC currents. Also, decreasing inductance will increase GPU voltage control capability and will improve GPU´s dynamic performance. Simulation and experimental results verify the validity of proposed converter.
