Air/ground data communication radios for future ATM

Any evolution in the aviation world tends to be challenging, especially if it has any impact on the systems belonging to the safety-critical aircraft domains. In this context the migration of the air/ground Air Traffic Control (ATC) communication from voice to data seems to be an ambitious objective. This paper will provides avionics supplier´s point of view on what would be the impact of such migration on the airborne communication radios equipage and what are the possible candidate solutions in this domain.
