Abstract :
Assuring safety in every phase of modern aviation is always a high priority, and avionics systems play a central role in these efforts. Although great progress has been made in using automation on the flight deck, every accident and incident reminds us that these systems could be still safer. Some accidents such as the loss of Air France 447 (AF447) in 2009 have inspired calls for reduced automation, or expanded training to better prepare pilots for its absence. However, other accidents show that seemingly minor misunderstandings of an aircraft´s automated systems can lead to deadly outcomes even without equipment failures.
