Abstract :
The Transportation Active Safety Institute (TASI) has performed a large set of performance tests of pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems of two cars of different make, under a variety of parameters including vehicle speed, lighting, mannequin speed, mannequin sizes, mannequin moving directions, etc. This paper describes the main braking patterns and the occurrence of impact as a function of initial speed, the initial and final position of the car. The braking patterns depend on the recognition and decision making times and also on the braking efficiency. Collision speeds, effective levels of deceleration and the importance of the transient phase are shown too. Finally the non-activation tests results are presented.
