Abstract :
Femtocells are foreseen as the future of indoor environments. As femtocells are user-installed devices, subscribers will be more interested in acquiring them. Nonetheless, femtocells come with their challenges and one of the main problem associated with femtocells is interference. Interference can occur between macrocells and femtocells (cross-tier) or amidst femtocells (co-tier). This paper proposes a power control scheme which attempts at mitigating both co-tier and cross-tier interference. The benefit of this scheme is the significant reduction in the femtocell transmit power particularly at low traffic load. In contrast, to previous power control schemes, 100% and 76% decrease in the transmitting power of the femtocell is noted at low traffic loads for the user located furthest away from the access point, when the access point is positioned at the center and near the house edge of the ground floor respectively. Besides, 95% reduction in signal leakage out of the house is observed considering highest channel bandwidth compared to previous power control schemes when the access point is positioned in the middle of the house.
