Abstract :
There are rising challenges in software-intensive engineering due to the increasing complexity in development and the collaboration barriers among developers; and that often results in project failure. In this study, we propose the lean awareness in four procedures to overcome the challenges in software-intensive engineering: 1) breaking things down manageably, 2) eliminating the waste, 3) empowering the team, 4) getting things done pervasively. As a proof of concept, we present our project experience of using the lean awareness in developing a software-intensive service for earth surface radiation monitoring. And based on the questionnaire and discussion, we address our conclusion that the lean awareness empowers the innovation by improving the manageability, cost effectiveness, feasibility and accumulative effort in engineering teamwork.
