Abstract :
To optimize energy efficiency in content distribution network (CDN), we propose a multiphase sleep-wake mechanism (MSWM) for CDN to achieve energy saving. Considering network components have some scaling idle time or lower load in running period, we divide sleep phase of component into multiphase sleep states. The energy consumption will be degraded from running states to complete sleep states, and the degree of sleep will deepen step by step. We analyze and evaluate system performance by establishing energy consumption model based on stochastic Petri nets - (SPN). We apply model simplify and evaluation technology to obtain some parameters of system performance and energy consumption by analyzing steady state probability of model. Simulation results show the proposed mechanism can provide better energy efficiency with guaranteed performance for users.
