Abstract
This paper discusses how to create an attractive “research experience” program in engineering and science education field. Recently research-oriented curriculums, which are called “research experience for undergraduates (REU),” are increasingly offered mainly as short-term programs. Despite efforts by educational institutes of both host and origin sides, not all of such programs are active in some way. In this research, an international exchange program is taken as an example and investigated in order for finding out the reasons. According to a series of inquiring surveys, several solutions for the inert situation will be proposed. One of the proposals is practically implemented as a new REU program. The detail of the new “hands-on” research program will be presented.
