Abstract
This paper reports on the detailed implementation and on-sky performance evaluation of an adaptive vibration cancellation (AVC) algorithm integrated into a medium order Adaptive Optics system (MACAO) currently operated at the European Southern Observatory in Paranal Chile. With respect to the previous contributions from the authors on the subject, this manuscript focuses on (1) the details about integration of the AVC on the fairly complex MACAO control architecture, (2) on the algorithmic features implemented in order to enable a user friendly exploitation of the vibration rejection functionality and finally (3) on the results of an extensive on-sky performance evaluation campaign performed in July 2014.
