Abstract :
This study aims to evaluate the mathematical agreement between a proposed system based on the ZigBee wireless standard and a Schoberer Rad Messtechnik (SRM) system, a de-facto standard and consumer-ready track cycling performance monitoring system based on the Advanced and Adaptive Network Technology (ANT+) wireless protocol. Speed and cadence were measured in an indoor (i.e., in a laboratory) environment. The values measured by the proposed wireless system were compared with those of the SRM system. The measured speed and cadence values were significantly corresponded with the 96% limit of agreement relative to speed and cadence generated from the SRM. Statistical analysis results show that speed and cadence can be accurately measured and transmitted using ZigBee in addition to using ANT+. Moreover, cost, size, and power consumption were reduced by minimizing sensor nodes to a single node based on the natural relation between speed and cadence from the considered mathematical equations.
