Abstract :
Routing in networks plays a very key role in developing an ideal NoC design. Numerous routing techniques exist specifying their own rule to route the data, creating complexity in choosing a proper route function in terms of improving the overall network performance and reliability. This paper mainly focuses upon two routing algorithms (CRA & HRA) which help in selecting the proper routing strategy for suitable application needs to achieve better design metrics. As the routing algorithm specifies a path on a network through the router, a 7-port router mechanism is used on a 3D hybrid-mesh architecture for increasing the throughput, reducing latency period and delay in delivering the packet for a multicast traffic. Based on the inter-layer communication from a particular source to a destination level, the performance of the router is analyzed in terms of logic, resource utilization & timing characteristics and a comparative analysis of CRA & HRA is performed onto various parametric measures pointing to their best architectural features and performance.
