Abstract :
A high sensitive device for detecting and analyzing bio-analytes can be primed using optical biosensors by combining biological constituents with their physical and chemical properties. In this paper we have validated a two dimensional photonic crystal based optical sensor with line defect which can detect agents causing typhoid fever in aqueous mediums. The respective peaks were investigated. Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method has been used for the exploration. MEEP (MIT Electromagnetic Equation Propagation) and MPB (MIT Photonic Bands) simulation tools have been used for designing the two dimensional photonic crystal with a waveguide. The peak shifts in frequency and wavelength for water containing salmonella typhi was investigated with a values of 0.2829 and 1.768 um respectively. The quality factor of the sensor was found to be 85530 along with a sensitivity of 1nm/RIU. It has been observed from the band structure that for slight variation in refractive index (RI) will cause a reasonable shift in the frequency and wavelength. These properties empower the design to be a highly sensitive sensor. The layout design of the sensor is designed using IMEC IPKISS tool. The GDSII file was generated using OWL VISION tool and thoroughly verified with K-Layout tool. The ASCII code was generated from OWLVISION tool.
