  • Abstract
The cloud detection algorithm is vital to grow the different quality based parameters which are linked with the energy budget of earth and hydrological cycle used in distinct research area. Hence the cloud detection algorithm should be firm enough. This paper embodies brief description of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and realization of it on NOAA, VIRR and MODIS datasets with double threshold values applied in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The result based proposed approach is further compared with the results based RGB and HSV color models where proposed approach works better than other existing methods on different data sets with different ecological surfaces (Water, Vegetation, Soil, Snow/Ice). After analyzing the strength and weakness of the proposed approach, the algorithm is verified over approximate 1000 images where it discriminate approximately above 85% of the cloud contaminated pixels against clear pixels of the satellite images.
