Abstract :
The relatively static, dynamic slow-changing power transmission and distribution market is finding itself at the confluence of energy, the IEEE 802.16 broadband standard commonly known as WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is the latest technology that has promised to offer broadband wireless access over a long distance communication since 2001.WIMAX technology is widely consider for many smart grid applications. This paper is focused on the applications and use cases of WIMAX technology in smart grid. WIMAX use in Smart Grid is like AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) Backhaul, Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) Backhaul, AMR (automatic meter reading), Demand Response, Mobile Workforce and Video Surveillance. We evaluate the performance of WIMAX technology considering both direct and aggregated architecture in urban, suburban and rural.
