  • Abstract
In WSN, addressing is not only an identification parameter. It is also a way to reduce energy costs generated by overhearing and idle listening. This paper proposes an approach to wake up one node or a group of nodes in the radio-trigger mechanism in WSN. Our method is to transmit through 2 pulses an information enabling communication without the necessity of turning on network nodes main radio. The duration between two pulses is used as the wake-up signal. So, each network node measures and evaluates this to deduce if it has to wake-up or not. This process provides a new mechanism nodes addressing before communication. Energy spent and the numbers of modules required in the wake-up signal receiver circuit are reduced. 4D Addressing can save about 30% of the energy of the addressed node.
