Abstract :
Image enhancement is an effective method to improve the visual appearance of an image or to provide a better transform representation for future automated image processing. Usually the obtained vascular biometric traits from the sensors are of low contrast and nonuniform in nature. The problem of low contrast and nonuniform illumination appearing in the palm vein images are mitigated by image enhancement techniques. In this paper, various image enhancement techniques such as Contrast enhancement, Histogram equalization, Enhancement using wavelet, Gaussian filter and Fuzzy rule based approach are discussed. The effectiveness of the enhanced images is compared with their statistical parameters along with fuzzy index.
