Abstract :
A method to design and realize the beam-steerable lens is proposed and tested in this paper. Such a lens is composed with varactor-diodes-loaded metamaterials. The electromagnetic properties of the lens, in particular, the refractive index distribution, can be controlled by reverse bias voltages added to the metamaterials. Therefore, the lens obtains flexible beam forming functions when a variety of reverse bias voltages are applied. A prototype of the lens is manufactured, and its beam-forming function is successfully demonstrated in experiment.
