Aspects of the use and automatic modification of extra locator elements of modular fixtures

By complementing some modular fixtures with an extra locator element the complexity and the size of the fixture can be reduced, and further the locating precision can be increased compared with the three pin locating method. In this article those aspects are analyzed that have to be investigated before the use of an extra locator element. A system that uses these aspects during automated fixture design is also briefly introduced.
