Abstract
The exponentially growing big geospatial data, along with their 4Vs characteristics, call for better services to meet the increasing demands for geospatial information and knowledge. Intelligent GIServices, which bring intelligence to various aspects of GIService provisioning and use, including discovery, selection, and chaining, can help automate the data-information-knowledge transformation in Earth science information infrastructures. This paper highlights several key issues towards intelligent GIServices, including semantic awareness, Quality of Service (QoS), and data provenance. It also presents some work on developing a prototype system. The results are demonstrated by enriching an existing geoprocessing workflow tool with semantics, provenance, and quality capabilities, to provide semantics-enhanced discovery of GIServices, provenance tracing and sharing, and QoS-aware optimization of GIService chains.
