Abstract :
This paper describes a preliminary study for the integration of different data sources to support flood hazard definition and detection at a basin level. The study aims at providing a methodology for defining potential flood indicators and the possible effect on the ground comparing discharge data with water bodies extent derived by an automatic procedure for the classification of water bodies based on MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) data and rainfall values derived by TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission). A case study of application of this methodology is provided for the northern part of Pakistan and presented as a table summarizing the relationship between the three parameters (peak discharge, flood extent and precipitation).
