Abstract
In this paper, we propose an optical forward-error-correction (FEC) coding scheme with convolutional code using FWM in a HNLF to realize adaptive coding scheme corresponding to the signal-to-noise ratio between nodes. The performance of the proposed scheme was analytically investigated for 211-1 PRBS DPSK-modulated RZ format signals at 10Gbps. The insertion losses of the FEC coding circuit were approximately 0.5 and -0.8dB at BER = 10-9 in the cases of two- and three-input optical XOR operations, respectively, indicating that the proposed scheme offers a net coding gain.
