Abstract :
Ultrasonic measurement models are used to develop explicit procedures for producing ultrasonic flaw images, called imaging measurement models. These imaging measurement models define the images produced in terms of the geometry and reflectivity of the flaw and are rational versions of synthetic aperture imaging and the total focusing method. For small flaws, the images produced are closely related to those developed with the physical optics far field inverse scattering method. Numerical examples are given that describe the images generated with such models.
