Abstract :
Ultrasound-based concentration measurement of micron-scale particles has a wide range of potential applications. Ultrasound enables nondestructive analysis of the sample, which allows for large analysis volume resulting in lower measurement uncertainty. The proposed method measures the concentration of dilute monodispersed sample by estimating the volume of a B-mode ultrasound image. It requires that the image be acquired with a linearly-scanned high frequency disk transducer. The method relies on the radial symmetry of disk transducer to estimate the volume of the image by analyzing the spreading of individual scatterers. The proposed method produces consistent results compared to the hemocytometer method and achieves lower measurement uncertainty.
