Abstract
An explicit forward collision probability index for forward collision warning system is presented for to alert and to assist driver keeping safety braking distance to avoid the collision accident in highway driving. The meaning of the forward collision probability index could be realized by driver. A value of 100% of collision probability index means the collision will happen and a value of 0% of collision probability index means the driving in safety scenario. Based on the forward collision probability index, the driver could know the driving situation and could keep in safety driving. The simulation results expressed the presented collision probability index is useful.
